SASSA Issues Warning: No Tolerance for Fraud in SRD R370 Grants – Important Information for Applicants

SASSA has taken a strong stance to protect public funds by declaring that no fraudulent applications for the Special Relief of Distress (SRD) Covid-19 grant, currently set at R370, will go unnoticed. This decision follows recent reports of scams and ineligible claims affecting the system.

On November 6, 2025, SASSA highlighted that all applications are thoroughly reviewed. This process includes cross-checks with government databases to verify applicants' income, employment, and residency status.

With millions relying on this vital support, the agency is enhancing its anti-fraud measures, which include AI-driven audits and collaborations with law enforcement.

SASSA Issues Warning: No Tolerance for Fraud in SRD R370 Grants – Important Information for Applicants

If you’re applying for assistance, make sure your information is accurate: unemployed South Africans aged 18-59 with no other income qualify, but submitting false declarations could result in rejection or legal consequences. Payments for approved applicants are scheduled for November, but delays can significantly affect those suspected of committing fraud.

Social media is filled with stories of rejected claims. Do you think this crackdown is fair, or is it too harsh on genuinely needy cases? Share your experiences below, and let’s discuss how to improve the system.
